The Proverbial Straw that Broke the Camels Back

You’re overwhelmed. The kids need to eat, there is laundry (at least it’s clean!) unfolded strewn across the unmade beds, you just got home from a busy day at work, the traffic was awful, people were cutting you off left and right, and you realized you still need to go grocery shopping for the week.

You freak the f*&$ out, maybe inside where no one can actually see it, or maybe people notice!

Your body tightens into a vice grip and you think to yourself, “I can’t do this. It’s all too much.” So you find a frozen pizza, put it in the oven, and crash on the couch with all of those to do items left undone. At least there will be something to eat.

Then you stew. You judge yourself. You may have thoughts like, “I can’t believe I’m feeding them frozen pizza. This isn’t healthy at all!” “I’m so lazy just laying on the couch when all of these things need to be done.” “How do other people do it all?”

Which only makes you feel worse, the time resting on the couch isn’t spent resting. It’s like you are actually doing all the work by thinking about it…so you are more exhausted before you finally go to bed, than if you actually just rested on the couch.

How to End this Overwhelm

So what was the straw that broke the camels back? Which one was it? Was it the laundry, work, need to grocery shop?

Which do you need to cut out, navigate in a more effective or efficient way, where do you need help?

Now, I’m not saying any of these questions might not be helpful for you. But they’re the same as using a tea cup to catch water from a leaking roof. It’ll help temporarily, but the teacup will soon overflow and you’re into another problem.

Okay – so what is the straw that broke the camels back?

The Thoughts.

The thoughts that appeared to be real.

Nothing can make you feel anything more, than the thoughts you have in your own head. The power they hold are undeniable.

“Saying a thought is just a thought, is the same as saying it’s just nuclear energy.”  – Michael Neill.

So…how do you have different thoughts?

That’s my job.

To help you find your way through the BS thoughts that keep you stuck, feeling burnt out, overwhelmed, and unable to see a clear path forward in your work, relationships, parenthood, or even a healing journey.

I love this job.

I see people every day come in with shoulders raised up to their earlobes only to drop back down to a reasonable level within the hour.

People who believe the their stress and overwhelm is legitimate. That the world or their worlds needs to change in order for them to be okay. And yet, in less than 60 minutes, with no external changes, their inner world is entirely different.

It’s amazing. I get hugs from my clients every day for the changes they see. It’s truly life altering, in the very best of ways.

When you finally see the straw isn’t real, it’s just a thought. The whole bale is lifted off your back and life feels light, simple, and beautiful again.
